Mallaig  & Skye

Return to Places We Like

On a tip from a bartender in the Hogshead Tavern in Stirling, we decided to go to Mallaig.  It is also on the west coast of Scotland but more toward the Highlands... A fishing town with a ferry, The Lord of the Isles that runs back and forth across the Sound of Sleat to the Isle of Skye.

There's not a lot to do in Mallaig if you aren't fishing but we did it all.  The community center was a delight and the Marine Museum was interesting, but there wasn't much opportunity for Retail Therapy as they call it...so we decided to go across the sea to Skye with our new friends, the crew of the Lord of the Isles...

We had a terrific time talking with all of these folks and John and Michael too... We are hoping that they stay in touch with us...
The Isle of Skye is very big and we only saw a tiny piece of it, but that piece was beautiful... the gardens of Arandale castle...

After our trip to Skye, I took a little hike in the highlands...

But our time in Mallaig had run out and it was time to board the train back through the Highlands and south to Ayr...
